The Center for Wellness and
Social Innovation (CWSI) at Kampala International University, Tanzania branch will host a
fund raising dinner this Saturday aiming at soliciting fund for the center.
The fund will be used to increase
awareness surrounding the negative impact stigma has in treating drug and
alcohol addiction in the country under the CWSI's campaign known as End Shame that is a National Call to
Action Against Stigma Surrounding Substance Abuse Disorders in the country.
Speaking with this newspaper
the Project Coordinator for CWSI, Lauren Schmidt said the event will take at The Terrace Restaurant, Slipway Masaki.
She said the according to the
recent report published by the Tanzanian Commission on Drugs, rates of drug
usage were on the rise in twelve different regions in Tanzania.
She added the need to develop
a multi-sector approach in addressing both drug and alcohol addiction, becomes
imperative for Tanzania’s
growth and development.
"Through developing a
national campaign that engages youth, as well as innovative methodologies and
gender sensitivity programs, the Center for Wellness and Social Innovation will
be providing support services in the country" she said.
She added that the ticket per
person is sold for 60 USD while per table is 600 USD and she asked many people
to turn up for the event.
She added that there will be
some Live Music and Beverages, buffet dinner for the guests, Auction, Speeches as
well as Introduction to Art Exhibition.
Lauren also said that the fund
obtained will be used in raising awareness for the End Shame campaign and work
being done at CWSI and support the training and capacity building of social
workers, counselors and mangers at
Recovery Based Centers of Care in the country.
Also continue with the End Shame campaign through awareness
trainings with hospitals, police, jails and universities on what to do, who to
call and how to best support people with drug and alcohol dependencies

and Alcohol Dependencies
